Alexander Ten is the new Asian triathlon champion

Almaty's Alexander Ten was the hero of the hour at the close of the third day of competition in the Asian Triathlon Championship, in Gyeongju, South Korea. After an incredibly hard-fought battle he took gold for the first time at “supersprint” distance (400m swim, 10km bike-race and 2.5km run).

Trained by the Almaty Triathlon Federation (head coach – Maxim Mazur), he finished the swim in the leading group. Coming into the bike-race, he managed to break away from the peloton along with athletes from Hong Kong and South Korea. And in the final running stage, the 15 year-old champion literally seized victory from his South Korean opponent.

The Asian Triathlon Championship, which has become the most successful event for our athletes, is now over. The Kazakhstan flag was twice raised over the city of Gyeongju. The national team has two gold medals of Alexander Ten and Darina Konisbayeva in the bank, and two bronze medals from Arina Shulgina and Merlan Iskakov. In total, Kazakhstan came second in the unofficial overall medal table.
